Hey friends, this is one of the biggest performances each of us has ever done! So, if you love (or even hold a mild distate for) Hans, Griffin, or myself (Alexander), please join us for an evening of music at the storied Cornelia St. Cafe in Greenwich Village. Heralded by All About Jazz as one of the top five jazz venues in New York City, the Cafe is an institution. We are so excited to premier a number of original compositions in this unique space, including from my new EP "Portraits Drawn Without You."

Please RSVP via phone at 212.989.9319 since we're trying to fill the place. Normal tickets are $20, and we've negotiated a special student rate of $10 for those with qualifying ID. So, there's really no reason not to come! All tickets include one drink.

Pianist Alexander Dubovoy is from the San Francisco Bay Area and first developed a love for jazz through programs like the Stanford Jazz Workshop. Bassist Hans Bilger grew up in Brooklyn playing bluegrass with his family and hearing music throughout New York. They met as undergrads at Yale University and were stunned to find that Yale does not have a jazz program. They became leaders of a student movement to start one. Both have fought tirelessly for jazz education and view improvisation as a powerful interdisciplinary concept. As a result, Dubovoy recently completed his thesis on the history of jazz in the Soviet Union, in which he analyzed the relationship between music and social change under the Bolshevik regime. Bilger wrote his thesis in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology about birdsong and composed an accompanying set of musical pieces called “Aviary” that integrates elements of natural sound. They have played together now for four years, particularly as part of the band Newspeak, which recorded the album Machinery of Night in 2014 with 11-time Grammy-winner Jack Renner. Dubovoy and Bilger met drummer Griffin Brown when playing with Newspeak and quickly developed a musical friendship, including tours to Vermont and California. Brown is currently finishing his undergraduate degree at Yale in English and Music. Dubovoy’s solo album, Portraits Drawn Without You, is coming soon, and Bilger’s album Old First is available on Bandcamp.
